25.2.202525.2.2025Greek shipowner Tsakos Group has scooped all nine suezmax dynamic positioning two (DP2) shuttle tanker newbuildings for Brazil’s Transpetro and will place the entire order with a single South Korean yard in a deal worth over $1.3bn. Newbuilding brokers said Samsung Heavy Industries is set to build the specialised vessels under contracts with Petrobras’ shipowning arm. They price the 158,000-dwt vessels at $146.5m each. No charter rate has yet emerged for the ships. Two are scheduled for delivery in 2027 with the remaining seven due for handover the following year. Brokers and market players expressed some surprise that a single shipowner secured the entire order at just one yard. They said there had been expectations that the order might be divided among three owners, each paired with a different shipyard. One said ultimately SHI proved sharpest on price, commenting that this type of vessel is a speciality of the shipbuilder. Similarly, newbuilding watchers said TEN, which is an experienced player in this sector, clearly opted to dive in on price and beat its competitors, which included several other Greek owners including Capital Maritime & Trading and Maran Tankers. But one added that it is “unusual” to see a single owner make such a massive investment on one type of ship with just one charterer. Both Transpetro and Tsakos Group have been contacted about the business. The shipowner is listed on Clarksons’ Shipping Intelligence Network database as having three 154,800-dwt shuttle tankers on order at SHI for delivery this year and in 2026. Two are detailed as being chartered to TotalEnergies. Listed arm Tsakos Energy Navigation is shown as owning a pair of 2013-built shuttle tankers that are operated by Petrobras and Transpetro. TradeWinds reported earlier this month that Transpetro had doubled up on the number of DP2 shuttle tanker newbuildings it was planning to order. The Petrobras company had previously circulated a requirement for just four newbuildings. But the business appeared to have been moving towards a conclusion as Petrobras was seeking 2027 delivery dates on the ships. Transpetro, which had been handling the tender and matching owners with yard berths, had been offering charter hire periods of 15 years. SHI would appear to have beaten yard competitors Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Zhoushan Shipyard (Cosco Heavy Zhoushan), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean for the newbuildings. Around 10 shipowners were originally said to have been shortlisted to own and build the vessels. Transpetro has previously said it does not comment on ongoing tenders. ·14.2.2024Auland. It's absolutely crazy, did the Tax Agency give any reason for exempting this from the public? After all, they have to follow the Public Disclosure Act, you can write an email to post@skatteetaten.no where you ask for access, then they have to justify it. Complain when they answer no again and ask for further reasons (there are "complaint templates" online) if they answer no again, you just have to email it to the Civil Ombudsman as an appeal body - who are very happy that this should be public. For you, it is not about much more than sending two or three simple emails, they are the ones who have to stress with paragraphs and a crooked case management system to answer it.
