24.4.·As a Scandinavian investor, it is clearly best to buy Alphabet shares directly on Nasdaq (ticker GOOGL or GOOG) instead of through the German Xetra exchange, where it is traded as ABEA or ABEC. Nasdaq is Alphabet's primary exchange, and the daily trading volume is much higher – often over 20 million shares – while the volume on the German listing is typically extremely low. The low liquidity on Xetra means worse prices and wider spreads, which directly results in higher costs for you as an investor. In addition, there are often hidden exchange fees and custodian fees on the German EUR listing, even though the share is still effectively in USD. So you do not get rid of the currency risk, but you pay more for it. The American Nasdaq listing, on the other hand, offers a better price, lower spread and no extra layers of fees
