- 23.5.23.5.The Xtrackers MSCI World Energy UCITS ETF 1C is suitable for investors seeking targeted exposure to the global energy sector, particularly those confident in the continued relevance of traditional energy companies. While the ETF offers strong medium-term returns and cost efficiency, potential investors should consider the implications of the global energy transition and associated market volatility. Diversification and alignment with individual investment goals and risk tolerance are essential when considering this ETF.25.6.·Well, 'traditional' energy is black, so you're investing against the good of humanity and besides, it's a shitty investment financially - 1 year -6.42% not exactly a goldmine to support Exxon and Shell and not something you talk about with your friends at the pub. So it's a no from here.14.7.·Thank you for your perspective, it is completely fair and very relevant in the discussion about investing in the energy sector. There is no doubt that sustainability and ESG considerations are becoming more and more important – and for good reason. However, this does not change the fact that some investors still see opportunities in traditional energy companies, not necessarily as a moral support, but as a tactical or diversified element in a broad portfolio, especially in the short to medium term. Regarding performance, the sector has undoubtedly been volatile – but if you look at the 5-year return for Xtrackers MSCI World Energy, for example, it is still well in the green end (~16% annually), among other things driven by oil prices, geopolitics and dividends. However, the risk is real, as you also say, and everyone should take it seriously – both in terms of climate and economy. In short: it is not an investment for everyone, and it should not be. But thank you for bringing up an important counterargument.
- 4.4.·It feels like the energy sector has a bit of bad momentum, will continue to buy, think we will see higher prices but it will probably go badly in the near future due to review risk so it suits my long-term savings portfolio for a bit longer, about 5 to 10 years and falling prices should mean that the average price of the ETF should be good but who knows, it's just my thoughts7.4.·I have it in monthly savings so I have the same view as you. Now Saudi etc. have increased production so oil will probably fall a little more, but I can't really figure out how high oil will go in the long term. Right now it seems like there is more than we need and if the oil producing countries continue to increase production and we at the same time move more away from fossil fuels towards renewable green energy, is this an ETF that doubles in 5 years? Who knows7.4.·Oil is very difficult to assess. If you look at it, it fluctuates a lot in price over time. Also, the supply is difficult to determine how much there is and how much more will be found. It is true that renewable energy is increasing, but demand should increase more and has also done so in the past due to the increased use of electricity in society. This is an assessment I have made, but you can never be completely sure. If you had listened to the experts, we should already have a shortage, and it doesn't seem to be the case yet.
