- ·2 päivää sitten2025 was the second best year for the development of onshore wind turbines in Germany BERLIN – The development of onshore wind turbines in Germany gained momentum last year. According to industry organizations, newly installed wind power capacity increased by over 50 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 958 new turbines with a combined capacity of around 5.2 gigawatts were put into operation. This made 2025 the second best year ever for the development of onshore wind power, according to the German Wind Energy Association and VDMA Power Systems. At the same time, older facilities were decommissioned, resulting in a net capacity increase of around 4.6 gigawatts. Most new turbines were connected to the grid in North Rhine-Westphalia, followed by Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. By the turn of the year, the total number of wind turbines in the country had reached around 29,000. Record number of new approvals A record was also set in the number of approved projects. Authorities gave the green light to around 20.7 gigawatts of new wind power capacity – almost 50 percent more than the previous year. On average, it takes over two years from a wind turbine receiving approval until it actually delivers power to the grid. Lower power production Onshore wind turbines produced 106.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, five percent less than the previous year. The decrease was due to an unusually weak spring wind. Nevertheless, onshore wind power was still Germany's most important energy source, with a share of 24 percent of electricity production. Together with solar power, wind power is a cornerstone of the energy transition away from fossil fuels. At the same time, increasingly taller turbines face local resistance. By the end of 2025, the total installed capacity was around 68 gigawatts. Germany thus risks not reaching the legally mandated target of 84 gigawatts by 2026. The industry expects a capacity increase of 8 to 8.5 gigawatts this year. Security and predictability The importance of wind power in the German energy system is steadily increasing, says Dennis Rendschmidt, Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems. At the same time, security threats – both physical and digital – are growing as a result of geopolitical tensions. This also applies to the access to critical components for manufacturers. According to Rendschmidt, it is about protecting national security interests. He also calls for greater political predictability for further development. The statement is directed at plans from the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche (CDU), who wants to reduce the costs of the energy transition. Among other things, she proposes that operators of renewable power plants should contribute to the financing of grid expansion. The industry: The grid is the bottleneck Bärbel Heidebroek, president of the German Wind Energy Association, says that the industry has done its part of the job. Grid expansion, however, is lagging behind. She warns against slowing down wind power development now. Reiche has spoken of a "needs-based" grid expansion, but Heidebroek believes this will worsen the situation. Access to grid connection for new projects is becoming increasingly difficult, with long waiting times and limited capacity.
- ·2 päivää sittenIPO: Energy technology company Asta plans stock market listing in Frankfurt in spring OED/FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – The Austrian energy technology company Asta Energy Solutions plans a stock market listing during the first quarter. The company, which specializes in copper products and has its main base in Oed in Austria, states that the shares are to be listed on the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Asta aims for gross issue proceeds of around 125 million euros from newly issued shares. The capital will be used for international growth and capacity expansion. According to the company, anchor investors – including SIEMENS ENERGY (DE000ENER6Y0) – have already committed to subscribe for shares worth around 55 million euros. Siemens Energy alone accounts for approximately 25 million euros. Long-term goal: one billion euros in revenue For the fiscal year 2025, Asta expects revenue of 680 million euros, up from 643 million euros in 2024. The company estimates an EBITDA result of between 45 and 47 million euros (2024: 36 million euros). In the longer term, the goal is to reach annual revenue of over one billion euros. Asta was founded in 1814 and today has around 1,400 employees spread across six locations in Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil (two factories), China and India. https://live.deutsche-boerse.com/news/IPO-Energietechnik-Zulieferer-Asta-will-im-Fruehjahr-in-Frankfurt-an-die-Boerse-2bbbeb60-0343-4e02-b7d2-317d884d7b33
- ·2 päivää sittenWind power expansion in Europe is far behind targets BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) – Europe is still a long way from its ambitious wind power targets. According to preliminary estimates, between 17 and 18 gigawatts (GW) of new onshore and offshore wind power capacity were installed last year. “This is far below what Europe needs,” states the industry organization WindEurope. Already in September, the organization downgraded its forecast for 2025 from 22.5 GW to 19 GW. Reasons include slow electrification, grid bottlenecks, and persistent challenges with approvals. The EU aims for renewable energy to account for 42.5 percent of total energy consumption by 2030. To achieve this, wind power must be expanded significantly faster. CEO: Geopolitics can provide wind in the sails WindEurope's CEO, Tinne van der Straeten, is nevertheless optimistic. “It is true that we are behind and not yet reaching the original targets,” says the former Belgian energy minister. She emphasizes that the industry is still strong, with solid national projects and market-leading players. “No one can guarantee that the goal will be reached, but we must work towards it. Without a clear goal, you won't get anywhere.” Van der Straeten believes that today's geopolitical uncertainty can actually strengthen the focus on wind power. “In an unstable world, we must secure our own energy base,” she says. This involves access to reliable and affordable energy. “Europe is still very energy-poor and heavily dependent on imports of fossil fuels such as gas, LNG, and oil. To replace this with clean energy sources, we must invest in wind power – both onshore and offshore.” https://live.deutsche-boerse.com/news/Windkraftausbau-in-Europa-hinter-Erwartungen-425e1259-192c-40ca-ab89-9fdcddbc686a

The allocated capacities ended at 8.4 gigawatts – more than double what was expected, analyst Colin Moody wrote on Wednesday.
