The acquisitions aim to modernize the Romanian army's land, naval, and air defence capabilities in a regional context characterized by increasingly complex security challenges. The most important contract is the framework agreement concluded with the company Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL for the delivery of 298 infantry fighting vehicles and derived vehicles. The agreement has a value of 3.337 billion euros and aims to equip the heavy infantry battalions of the Romanian land forces with modern equipment capable of meeting current operational requirements. Another strategic project aims to strengthen defence against air threats and drones. In this regard, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth almost 982 million euros with Rheinmetall Italien for the delivery of seven SKYNEX systems, two SKYRANGER 35 systems, and two Millenium systems. This equipment is intended to protect military forces, critical infrastructure, and ships against drones and other low-altitude air threats. In the naval sector, Romania will acquire two maritime patrol vessels and two diver intervention vessels, based on a contract worth 920 million euros signed with the NVL Group company. The authorities believe that these platforms will contribute to strengthening security in the Black Sea and protecting the maritime borders between the European Union and NATO.
