·27.9.Royal Caribbean orders two new giant ships Royal Caribbean is expanding the Icon class with two new cruise ships. The class is already known for accommodating the world's largest cruise ships. Royal Caribbean Group has confirmed the order of two new ships in the Icon class with Meyer Turku in Finland. The ships are provisionally referred to as Icon 6 and Icon 7, and are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030, respectively. The company stated this in a press release. The world's five largest The order is part of a long-term agreement with Meyer Turku, which secures Royal Caribbean access to construction capacity at the shipyard until 2036. Previously, Icon 5 has been ordered for delivery in 2028. The two new ships will become part of the most extreme segment of the cruise market: the Icon class, where Royal Caribbean already operates the largest cruise ships. Royal Caribbean has not yet published final technical specifications for Icon 6 and Icon 7. However, Meyer Turku describes the Icon class ships as being around 250,800 gross tonnage, with a capacity of around 7,600 passengers. Measured in gross tonnage, Royal Caribbean operates the world's five largest cruise ships. At the top are the sister ships "Icon of the Seas" and "Star of the Seas", both stated at 248,663 GT. These are followed by "Utopia of the Seas" at 236,473 GT, "Wonder of the Seas" at 235,600 GT, and "Symphony of the Seas" at 228,081 GT. "Icon of the Seas" is listed with 20 decks, 2,805 staterooms, 5,610 passengers at double occupancy, 2,350 crew members, and a length of 364 meters. Floating holiday resorts The Icon class is built more like floating holiday resorts than traditional cruise ships. On current Icon ships, passengers will find, among other things, eight so-called neighborhoods, water parks, multiple pool areas, a surf simulator, a climbing wall, mini-golf, a sports court, a casino, a theatre, an ice arena, and dedicated areas for children and teenagers. A main attraction is the Category 6 water park, which Royal Caribbean calls the largest at sea. On the Icon class, it consists of six water slides. The ships offer an extensive pool and entertainment selection. The upcoming sister ship "Legend of the Seas" is marketed with seven pools, a new Broadway show, and 28 dining venues. The third ship in the class, "Legend of the Seas", is scheduled to debut in the Mediterranean in the summer of 2026, before relocating to sailings from Fort Lauderdale in November of the same year. For the shipyard in Turku, the agreement is industrially important. Royal Caribbean states that the collaboration with Meyer Turku spans more than three decades, and that the shipyard has built 25 ships for the group. According to the company, Meyer Turku and its supplier network employ around 13,000 workers and contribute more than one billion euros annually to the Finnish economy.

It's apparently nearing a close, which hit the news terminals a few minutes ago and created the immediate selling panic.
