I simply don't understand why this stock is not priced higher. I truly believe there is profit in holding the stock for the next many years.

There is a lot of growth that is priced in at this price, tbf. When one then takes into account factors such as emerging markets macro volatility and currency risk, as well as e-commerce + payment competition in LATAM, it becomes clear why investors demand a higher risk premium. And then there are the strategic trends that @ackrite also mentions, which are pressing MELI's margins - e.g. free shipping offers etc.. The board says that it is to gain market share and continue building their moat and flywheel, but parts of the market extrapolate it as involuntary capital investments forced by competition and therefore doubt that profitability can return as before. But I agree that the stock is cheap, there are just more risk factors that one must be willing to tolerate if one is long MELI. 3-5 years is the minimum time horizon IMO, if one wants to see the cash-to-digital shift in South American buying and selling materialize and benefit MELI

I am currently waiting for it to fall so I can buy into it again. My hypothesis is that the stock market has not fully priced in the interest rate hike that came yesterday evening, as well as various unrest, and that there will therefore be a bit more decline today and perhaps also Friday. I am hoping for a price around 1.750. Right now it is rising in the aftermarket, so maybe the train will leave before I manage to get on, but that's how it is sometimes in this stock world.

Might have been because MELIs competitor Sea had its Q2and people saw that its increasing its margins finally --> prooving that once MELI decides to stop investing it CAN be more profitable just like it was before or like Sea.
