I had a large position, and originally planned to be a long-term investor, but became genuinely concerned partly about the Accoat case and partly about a company like SP even owning such a rubbish business. Not just that they pollute. But the entire working environment is simply so unprofessional. What do the rest of their factories look like then? I sold out, and now it's just rising. That's just a shame. But I still wouldn't feel comfortable with it. There's a risk of a years-long aftermath with PFAS cleanup. And then I have a concern about whether that's an expression of the standard in their business? (Danwatch) June 2024 – Massive pollution documented Investigations carried out by Region Hovedstaden showed PFAS and other toxic chemicals thousands of times above limit values in soil and groundwater at three former factory addresses, all of which had been used by Accoat. (Danwatch) Summer-Autumn 2024 – Criticism and demands for air measurements Helsingør Municipality issued an order to conduct PFAS measurements in the air due to suspicion of emissions via chimney and production. Accoat criticized the order, partly arguing that the measurements were problematic due to a lack of legislation in the area. (dk-sundhed.dk) October 10, 2024 – Order for air measurements The municipality gave Accoat 16 weeks to carry out air measurements following suspicion of PFAS emissions through exhaust. (dk-sundhed.dk) December 6, 2024 – Accoat announces closure Accoat's board announced that the company in Kvistgård would close down by the end of 2025, following criticism from local residents, media, and politicians regarding its location close to homes, a school, and the use of PFAS. (Nyheder24.dk) February 24, 2025 – Blood test examination for citizens Citizens in Kvistgård were encouraged to have blood tests taken to investigate whether they have elevated PFAS levels, as a possible health impact from the factory. Medical coating and other activities were not included. The results were assessed as a snapshot, especially after Accoat had removed one of the chimneys before the measurements.
