They apparently don't have control over the supply chain. Their stocks of chips are running low and due to trade barriers they can't get new chips that are used to produce new cars.

VW is not quite Nokia. They should have tried. They make good cars. Id7, Cupra and Skoda are good cars. They are hit by supply problems, customs, rare metals, battery capacity challenges, Others are struggling in the same way. For example. Mercedes, Ford, Volvo. Now Nissan, which was dominant with the Leaf, is also struggling. It is an industry in great change. If you are going to make money, you need to have fewer parts and faster assembly, few variations, 4wd and an appealing design. It is a lot about getting the best-selling model out there. If it goes down more now, I will consider buying back in.

The challenge for the old established vehicle manufacturers is that technology is advancing rapidly, many new brands are entering the market, political uncertainty with tariffs and more. There are currently many question marks and few answers as to where it all points. I myself do not want to buy an electric car because they cost too much for my taste and I drive too little. Which car manufacturer will survive the challenges ahead? No one knows and hence the question marks. I am waiting for investments in the automotive industry until I know where it is clearly pointing.
