Volvo Cars reported an 11-percent decline in global sales for Q1 2026, totaling 153,316 units, amidst challenging market conditions. Despite the overall decline, sales of fully electric vehicles increased by 12%, strengthening the company's electrification strategy. At the same time, Volvo Cars is strengthening its ecosystem through a debt-to-equity conversion in Polestar, increasing its ownership stake to 19.9%, as well as a new commercial partnership to import Lynk & Co cars into Europe. These measures, along with the consolidation of Polestar 3 production in the USA, aim to improve efficiency and market reach. Global sales for Q1 2026 decreased by 11% year-over-year to 153,316 units, although sales of fully electric cars increased by 12%. Electrified models (fully electric and plug-in hybrids) accounted for 47.3% of total sales, with fully electric cars making up 23.7%. Volvo Cars will convert $339 million of its outstanding loan to Polestar into equity, increasing its ownership stake from 9.8% to 19.9
