MBB can be described as a German variant of Berkshire Hathaway – with long-term value creation, active capital allocation and a very strong balance sheet. The investment case is driven by operational quality, substantial net cash and an attractive valuation. From 2020 to 2025, revenue increased from €689m to €1.17bn, while adjusted EBITDA rose from €86m to €217m (margin up from 12.5% to 18.6%). The balance sheet provides enormous operational freedom, with net cash increasing from €253m to €764m over the period, while equity surpassed €1bn in Q1 2026. The company actively uses its capital for value-accretive acquisitions and share buybacks. At a share price around €175, MBB trades at approximately 14.6x 2027E P/E (compared to 22–23x forward P/E for Berkshire) and around 0.9x book value (compared to 1.4–1.5x for Berkshire), while delivering high capital returns with an ROE of ~15% and ROCE of ~16%. MBB's own SOTP calculation per March 2026 showed a NAV of up to €260 per share (~33% discount), based inter alia on Friedrich Vorwerk (€612m), net cash in holding (€374m), Aumann (€77m) and Delignit (€14m). The portfolio is mainly driven by Friedrich Vorwerk, which in 2025 generated revenues of €704m with €163m in EBITDA (23.2% margin). Vorwerk provides solutions within power grids, gas and hydrogen, and is well-positioned for the massive expansion and modernization of European energy infrastructure. This provides exposure to electrification, energy security and the energy transition, while the need for power grids and other infrastructure increases. Aumann (€204m revenue / €27m EBITDA) delivers automated production lines in electromobility, batteries and industrial automation. At the same time, the company has pivoted away from the more cyclical traditional automotive industry and towards broader areas such as cleantech, robotics, aerospace and other high-tech industries. Aumann also has a very strong balance sheet, with €153m in cash and marketable securities – corresponding to around 90% of today's market capitalization. The company offers an interesting combination of exposure to electrification and increasing automation in European industry. DTS (€116m / €17m EBITDA) provides exposure to cloud, digitalization and cybersecurity – areas with structural growth and increasing demands for digital resilience. Delignit and Hanke Tissue contribute with more defensive niches, where Delignit also has exposure to sustainable materials based on renewable raw materials. Overall, MBB is thus exposed to several of the most important long-term investment themes in Germany and Europe: electrification, power grids, energy transition, automation, digitalization and sustainability. The transfer of CT Formpolster to Nexeras in August 2026 also illustrates the ability to sell mature assets when capital can be allocated more effectively. The strong cash position gives MBB significant capacity for new acquisitions without the need for significantly increased debt. My base case is an annual capital return of 12–16% over the next 3–5 years, driven by 8–10% underlying NAV growth, gradual closing of the SOTP discount and continued value-accretive capital allocation.
