The most interesting thing is actually not that institutions own ~75% of $LMND but how quickly the ownership has increased. 🍋 For companies in Lemonade's size class, a high institutional ownership is not particularly unusual in itself. What stands out more is that institutional holdings, according to the latest reporting, increased by approximately 6.7 million shares in just one quarter (+13%). This does not mean that institutions are automatically right. But it shows that Lemonade is increasingly starting to appear on the radar of larger asset managers. And that's where I think the case becomes interesting. If Lemonade in the coming years manages to combine continued growth with improved margins and prove that their technology/AI actually provides a structural cost advantage, then the company can start to be valued in a completely different way than today.
  • To all Lemonade Investors, look at yesterdays interview with among CEO
https://youtu.be/v8dW50r7cuE?is=NGmvORe5g-vr5oK6 Long term thesis unchanged. ✅ After digesting the Q2 earnings report and all the commentary, my conclusion is simple: everything is still on track. I understand why the market punished $LMND for guiding toward flat OpEx growth when, in reality, some costs simply cannot stay flat. On the other hand, metrics like LAE are improving ahead of schedule and ahead of expectations. After watching @PaperBagInvest's video, I also have a much better understanding of the SBC discussion and why it matters. Patience is the key here. In a few years, we'll probably have forgotten about these issues because they are largely a byproduct of focusing too much on QoQ and YoY fluctuations.

Lemonade investors, I think the market is overanalyzing something that isn’t particularly important: the increase in Q2 operating expenses. Management explained this clearly during the earnings call. The higher opex was primarily driven by increased AI/software investments and stock-based compensation. Meanwhile, headcount remained essentially flat, which supports management’s explanation. The metric that really matters is headcount. That’s the underlying operating cost we want to see remain disciplined as the business scales. Salaries may increase over time and SBC can fluctuate depending on compensation strategy, but neither changes the long-term investment thesis. SBC in particular, is a management decision that can be adjusted whenever appropriate. More importantly… yesterday’s selloff looked like a significant overreaction. It wasn’t unique to Lemonade either! high-beta growth stocks were broadly under pressure. LMND simply got caught in the same risk-off move but the magnitude of the decline seems disconnected from what was actually reported. We’re invested in Lemonade because we believe it has the potential to become an extraordinarily large company over the long term. If you believe the business can eventually be worth hundreds of billions—or even approach a trillion-dollar valuation, the current level of SBC is a relatively small consideration compared to the value creation opportunity ahead.
