- ·19.9.Stifel maintained its Buy recommendation and price target of $675 on Friday, following a new survey among veterinary clinics. The interesting thing is not the price target, but the survey itself: IDEXX achieved the clearly strongest net-score for its relationship with veterinarians among the five animal-health companies surveyed; only Zoetis was also positive. The stock closed around $506 and is close to its 52-week low despite 10.3% organic growth in recurring diagnostics in the latest quarter. This supports my assessment that the current price drop is more multiple compression than a deterioration of IDEXX’ moat.
- ·18.9.After the acquisition of CoVetAI earlier this week, IDEXX yesterday expanded its Fecal/Faecal Dx platform in the UK and France with additional parasite diagnostics. CoVetAI is the more important part: AI-based ambient listening and workflow software can be integrated into IDEXX's veterinary software ecosystem and strengthens the combination diagnostics + software + AI. I think it fits very well into IDEXX's moat, but the acquisition price has not been disclosed, so I wouldn't raise the fair value on that basis yet.
- ·15.9.At the Morgan Stanley Healthcare Conference last night, management maintained its long-term target of >10% organic growth and >15% EPS growth, despite expectations of a 1.5–2% decline in vet visits in H2. Reference Labs and VetLab recurring revenue continues to grow double-digit, the 2026 margin is expected to be over 32%, and FCF is used, among other things, for buybacks. Particularly interesting is Cancer Dx: 20% of customers who have adopted the test came from competing reference laboratories. inVue Dx is also ahead of expectations and generates approx. $3,500–5,500 in annual recurring revenue per instrument.
- ·4.8.Good report today! EPS grew 18 % Recurring Revenue grew 11 %, which makes earnings very stable and predictable. Over 1,600 new inVue Dx installations strengthen future recurring revenue and expand the company's moat. Gross and operating margin increased to 64 % and 35 % respectively, which shows strong pricing power and efficient operations. Free Cash Flow increased significantly, which provides great financial flexibility. 704 million USD was spent on share buybacks, which supports long-term EPS growth. Management raised both revenue and EPS guidance, which shows confidence in continued development. Conclusion: The report delivered well. High EPS growth, strong recurring revenue, increasing margins, strong cash flow, sound capital allocation, and management that continues to raise expectations. The only small negative was lower sales of new instruments, but this was primarily due to a strong comparison period last year – not weak demand.
- ·1.8.Here's what I'll be watching in the financial report in a few days. 1. CAG Diagnostics Recurring Revenue (most important) * Should preferably grow 10-11 % organically or more. It is the engine of the business. 2. Instrument Placements * Continued strong demand for VetLab and inVue Dx. More new installations mean higher recurring revenue later. 3. Clinic Visits * Management should preferably report continued improvement in visits to veterinarians, as this drives testing activity. 4. Margins * Gross and operating margin should preferably be stable or increase. This shows strong pricing and efficient operations. 5. EPS * Should preferably beat analysts' expectations. 6. Guidance (second most important) * The most important after growth. An upward revision of revenue or EPS would be a very positive signal. 7. New Products * Watch out for comments on Cancer Dx, inVue Dx, software and AI. These are the most important long-term growth drivers.
