    "Ferrari need not sell that many of its first EV to notch up a victory. Although the firm is tight-lipped about targets, it is likely that the Luce is the type of Ferrari that would sell at most 9,000 cars over a roughly four-year model cycle. It will probably turn a healthy profit selling fewer than that. More important will be establishing Ferrari in the ev business. Ferrari’s strong ties to its loyal customers will help with that. Many of them own several cars adorned with the prancing horse logo, and may wish to add the first ev to their collections. Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari’s boss, has stressed that demonstrating brand loyalty, the usual route to eligibility for acquiring one of the firm’s coveted limited-run hypercars, does not apply to the Luce. But many of the faithful will not take the risk. Then there is the prospect of luring new customers. Ferrari’s hope is that the Luce’s bold but unfussy design and tech-filled interior will appeal to a different audience from its usual clientele. Mr Vigna has said that his firm is pursuing the segment of the market that “want and will buy a Ferrari, if and only if it’s electric”. Around four-fifths of the firm’s sales currently go to existing customers. At the launch event for the Luce, however, around half the invited guests were reportedly new to the brand. Ferrari is attempting a risky manoeuvre. It might just pull it off. "

    I'm trying to be a bit contrary and would argue that Luce is at least very exciting for Ferrari. The car is being ridiculed online. A popular meme is that the car looks better when you ask AI to make it look like a Ferrari. But that's kind of the point, I think. AI used in such a way is a cliché generator. And I don't think Ferrari would make an EV that competes with its already existing model catalog, a cliché Ferrari without sound. They understand that an EV Ferrari will always be criticized by the hard core fans anyway. And who exactly are these fans? The average age of a Ferrari buyer is 55 years. 98 % are men. This crowd would never give 600 000 Euro for a Ferrari EV anyway. They have made an Apple-Ferrari instead of a Pininfarina. When they first decided to make an EV, it might have been quite smart, both for the value of the old-school models and for this new segment. I envision a younger, somewhat hipster-ish tech founder, with a family, who might find fossil 2-seater sports cars a bit outdated. The interior is also cool, very tactile with switches and levers. No "black piano lacquer" and other clichés. Personally, I stopped following new Ferrari models a long time ago. I don't even know their names, except Purosangue - which was also an atypical Ferrari. But with Luce, the internet is suddenly buzzing because of a new car.
